Rhizome came as close to a potlach environment as “white culture” ever can. The sense of shared resources, shared food, shared experiences, and shared wealth was palpable, and so incredibly moving. If only our entire economy could function like this space did. No one would feel poor or lacking in sustenance, and no one would feel guilty for their relative wealth. All could break bread together, in equality.
Nirvana, or at least a start down that long road back to better times in human culture…maybe 10,000 years ago.
Keep it up, L & V. Inspire more people, and the world will then more likely survive the scourge of humanity.
Many thanks, Vinetta & Lisa, for opening your hearts & souls so our community could thrive at the Rhizome.
i enjoyed many meals with friends. And the Free Stores were lots of fun too. Everyone always seemed to enjoy communicating with others in your open, everyone welcome, cafe.
Thank you, both Vinetta and Lisa for the wonderful memories and environment they’ve created for the Vancouver community. I sincerely hope the new “owners” have as much heart and passion as they did, for I have really enjoyed their presence, while it lasted. I hope they see this and know that the community wish them the best in the future and will dearly miss them! I hope to see those two in the near future, loads of love sent their way.
Rhizome Cafe has been the scene of so many home movies, the ones I play in my head. Dancing late on hot nights, chilaquiles for brunch, art on the walls, people packed to the rafters for events, neighbours and friends and acquaintances laughing over long drinks. I will miss you. xo Ariel
Rhizome has always felt like a home away from home to me. Thank you for all the work you have put into creating and holding such a valuable community space for so many of us. Best wishes for the new Rhizome in Toronto. I can’t wait to come visit! xo Krisztina.

November 6, 2013Simply stated, you are beautiful and that beauty was translated into a space, an atmosphere, a community (actually, many communities…how rhizomatic!)
Rhzome was the first place I went for brunch when I moved to Vancouver. It is still the place I wake up wanting to go.
Toronto is lucky to have you! I know I will see you again.
With love,
Julia
